Janey is the founding director of the Peabody Essex Museum’s Art & Nature Center, which opened in 2003. She started at PEM in 1992 as the curator of Natural History and took the lead in developing the concept for the original Center and its redesign and expansion in 2013. Janey has curated more than 15 interactive exhibitions at PEM that have explored myriad interdisciplinary topics, ranging from water as art, to contemporary origami, to visual perception. She  has a background in both the sciences and the performing arts and holds a BA in Human Ecology from College of the Atlantic, an MS in Science Communication and an MA in Biology — both from Boston University.
