Ukigumo Hakaze (Floating Clouds Rustling Leaves)

Garden Street: Upstairs

Ukigumo Hakaze (Floating Clouds Rustling Leaves) explores the infinite creative potential of paper, one of our most ancient technologies. Ukigumo Hakaze juxtaposes paper-as-literature with paper-as-origami, a celebration of the transformation from blank page to beautiful form. The installation features a data visualization of the 6097 unique kanji (Japanese logographic characters adapted from Chinese) that comprise the over 150,000,000 total kanji within the Japanese public domain literature archive.
